A day I wished had never happened

It was late at night. James and I were walking in a field near our base camp. The stars were out and suddenly, James covered my eyes with his hands.

"Tada!" he said, removing his hands to reveal a small candlelit picnic table.

"Oh, James, that's so sweet of you!" I said, kissing him on the cheek. We sat down and he started pouring wine into two goblets.

"Happy birthday Diana," he said, handing one of the goblets to me.

"Best birthday gift ever," I giggled.

We were sipping wine and having a good time when a light shone on us. "The Raveshers," James hissed and grabbed my hand. While we were running towards the forest, all of a sudden, we saw them. They enter human bodies and took control of them. They planned to take over the galaxy with their billions of troops. These unfortunate humans were now just mindless slaves to the aliens inside their bodies.

"Come on now, we just want to help," they motioned us.

"Never," James said and he fired at them. One of them collapsed to the ground and the other withdrew a small StunRay gun. "Let's just get out of here," I shouted but before we could do anything, the Ravesher fired the gun at us and we fell to the ground unconscious.

We were dragged back to their ship and woke up to find ourselves chained to the wall. I was about a metre from James, who was staring at the wall.

"Welcome. It's not often we get free human visitors," a woman stepped out from the shadows. She wore a white dress and high heels. "Ah yes, James Wood and Diana Hope. Leaders of the rebel alliance on earth. You've been causing us much trouble lately. But it's no big deal - soon you'll be one of us," she smiled coldly and gestured to two burly looking men. "Grab the male human," she ordered and they unchained James from the wall, bringing him to his knees.

"I could use a young man like you by my side. Think of the glory you could help bring to the Ravesher empire," she lifted his chin and looked into his attractive green eyes.

"No matter what, we'll always resist. We're born free and will always remain this way," he spat.

She smacked him across the cheek and she said, "Bring him to the healing chamber."

James struggled to get free and he looked back at me. "Diana," he whispered. "James!" I cried out as they dragged him into the chamber and strapped him onto the metal table. He cried out as they cut the base of his neck and inserted a Howler, which was basically like a glow-worm, into the cut. He yelled and struggled until he finally calmed down.

"Welcome, Echo 240," The woman smiled. My blood froze as I watched James get up and bow down to the woman. "My lady, how may I serve you?" he said coolly and with grace.

"That is not my James," I cried silently in my head.

"Bring the girl to me," she ordered and James walked out of the room and approached me.

"James, please. Remember who you are. You're James Wood, leader of the rebel alliance against the Raveshers. Remember me? I'm Diana. Your fiance," I pleaded with him. He gently stroked my cheek and wiped the tears from my face. "Forgive me. This is for your own good," he said and he started hauling me towards the chamber. I screamed and struggled as he strapped me onto the table and proceeded to cut the back of my neck. "Welcome to the empire," he said before inserting the Howler into my neck.

"No!" I screamed at the top of my lungs but darkness overwhelmed me.
